Greene County district court, week ending Sept. 20

In Greene County district court Ryan James Brown, 52, of Jefferson was sentenced Sept. 18 to one year of jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. All but 20 days of the jail time was suspended. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined $855 with a $127.50 surcharge. both were suspended. Brown was also sentenced to one year in jail on a charge of eluding. All but 10 days of that sentence were suspended, with the two jail terms to be consecutive (30 days total). He was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for two years. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. .

In a separate case in district court, Brown was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Corrections for two years. The prison terms will be consecutive to the terms in the previous cases if Brown ever serves them. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay $696.61 court costs in that case. A charge of eluding was dismissed.

in a related case in magistrate court, Brown was sentenced to 30 days in jail on a charge of interference with official acts. All but 10 days of the jail time was suspended. Jacob R. Vreugdenhil, 28, of Grand Junction was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of criminal mischief- second degree. The prison term was suspended. If it is ever served, it will be consecutive to the term in another Greene County case. Vreugdenhil was placed on probation to the Department of Corrections for three years. Vreugdenhil was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. A charge of trespass causing injury or damage was dismissed. No court costs were listed. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Kole Alexander Higgins, 29, of Grand Junction was sentenced Sept. 18 to 20 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. He will receive credit for time served. Higgins was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. Tammy Ann Tolsdorf, 58, of Jamaica was sentenced to 15 years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of Psilocyn- third or subsequent offense, habitual offender. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for three years. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. One county of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense was dismissed, as was one count of possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense. Court costs were $187.60. Shelby Marie McBride, 29, of Moville was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge after she pleaded guilty to a charge of theft- fifth degree, amended from theft- fourth degree. She must pay $302.59 restitution to Fifty Yard Line. Two counts of theft- fifth degree (also amended from theft- fourth degree) were dismissed. (Magistrate Jessica Morton)

Raelyn Ann Holmgaard, 40, of Churdan was sentenced to 10 days in jail after she pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct- abusive epithets/ threatening gesture, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. The jail term was suspended and she was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. Holmgaard was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge. Court costs were $100. Jordan Marcus Ward, 31, of Jefferson was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program at his own expense in lieu of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense, and he must complete a drinking drivers course. Tonya Lynne Zollars, 36, of Paton was sentenced to one year in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense, amended from OWI- second offense. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She may complete the DMACC 48-hour alcohol education program at her own expense. She must also undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense, and she must complete a drinking drivers course. Zollars was fined $1,250 with as $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if she obtains a temporary restricted license. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows Christian Octavius Riley, 33, of Carroll, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana; Marcus Anthony Hill, 51, of Fort Dodge, fraudulent practice- third degree, gambling- avoid set off; Alexandra Paige Thomas, 33, of Boone, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana; Christopher James Lehrkamp, 38, of Scranton, driving while license revoked and OWI- second offense; Samantha Jo Bergemann, 39, of Jefferson, OWI; and Travis Austin Smith, 33, of Churdan, OWI- third offense and driving while license barred. Trial dates were set for Des. 10 for all defendences except Smith. Trial date for Smith was set for Nov. 5.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Joseph Henry Charleston III, 54, of Scranton, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness; Robin Ann Tague, 38, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness; Carlos Ricardo Gonzales, 49, of Dayton, driving while license barred; and Catlin Dale McDonald, 26, of Scranton, OWI- second offense, possession controlled substance, unlawful possession of prescription drug, eluding, and driving while license revoked.
